We have a furnace (heating) but do not have air conditioning (cooling). So…
We like to keep the water shut off while we're away to avoid the possibility of flooding. When arriving, you'll want to turn it on right away so have runny water and hot water for showering. Go downstairs and use the door directly in front of you to get to the storage room. Then find the mechanical room on the left wall. Use the pull chains to turn on the 2 light bulbs.
In the mechanical room. There are instructions on top of the water heater. You can also follow the instructions, below:
[ ] Turn on water
The water valve is just above the floor. Turn the handle clockwise 90º.
[ ] Turn on water heater "B"
Hot water takes about a hour to get going. Find the breaker box by the door in the mechanical room. Flip the switch for "B" to the right to turn on the main water heater. If you have a house full of people and need more hot water, also flip on "A" for the secondary hot water heater.
Note: heater "A" alone will not get you hot water. At least heater "B" must be on.
[ ] Uncover furniture
Take off furniture covers. Shake outside. Fold and put away in pantry
optional
[ ] Open large window shade
If you want to open the large window shade next to the stairs, use the telescopic pole to at the bottom of stair case.
do later
No need to do this right away; just some time during your stay. Check the laundry room for any dirty linens left from the previous group. Wash anything that was dirty when you arrived. If it's bedding, you may need it to make the beds before you leave so you can leave the linens you used in the laundry room for the next person.
That's it! Have a great stay!
